Announcement
Snowmobile Enthusiasts,
The New Hampshire Snowmobile Museum is asking for your help in advocating for financial assistance.
Since its establishment in 1985, the museum has been committed to bringing the early days of snowmobiling to life through vintage display exhibits and free events to the public. As a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization, the museum relies on the support of our members, donations and 2 fundraising swap events, all which have kept the spirit of snowmobiling alive over these 40 years.
The dream of founding a museum became a reality in 1985 when a non-profit organization, the New Hampshire Snowmobile Museum Association was created. The, then Bureau of Off Highway Vehicles and now the Bureau of Trails, part of the Division of Parks and Recreation, provided space at two Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) building at Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown, New Hampshire. In that year, the first and only state sponsored snowmobile museum in the United States became an actuality. This public-private partnership has proven to be very successful, resulting in a one-of-a-kind museum collection of over 80 snow-traveling machines and a large collection of memorabilia.
We should be joyous celebrating our 40th anniversary this year, however we now are trying to find out how we can continue to keep the history of snowmobiling alive in New Hampshire and for our surrounding states. The NH Snowmobile Museum was informed that our building has been compromised beyond repair and we must vacate the building before winter.
The building that the Snowmobile Museum occupies was originally constructed in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC). The building was built as a temporary structure that has deteriorated over 90 years. It has been assessed by the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources (DNCR) that the building cannot be saved and will be razed.
The museum will need to remove all vintage sleds, memorabilia, and reference documents from the building before winter 2025. The museum does not have a location to move our vintage sleds, memorabilia and reference collection to. The DNCR is trying to assist, but does not have any buildings available to use as a museum or to store the collection.
The museum is in the preliminary stages of working through current needs. Ultimately, we are looking for a new building or land to build! We need help to raise funds to secure a new location and to cover our unexpected moving expenses. Please make a donation to help. Help us get the word out, we need ‘snow angels’ who can help.
If you are interested to volunteer to help move and transport please reach out by email: NHSnowmobilemuseum@outlook.com
*The NH Snowmobile Museum Association is not affiliated with the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association (NHSA) or NH Snowmobile clubs and does not receive money from the trail system.
